Shopping, Dining & Entertainment in Maricopa

A common worry before moving here: "is there anything to DO in Maricopa?" Here's the honest picture — what we have, what we don't (yet), and what's on the way.

The honest gap — and why

Maricopa only incorporated in 2003, and before that there were fewer than 2,000 people here. Big retailers take years to study a community before they commit, so as of now the city itself doesn't have a Target, Costco, Sam's Club, or Hobby Lobby, and there's no movie theater or bowling alley right in town. If having those a few minutes away is a must, that's the honest trade-off — for now.

But it's closer than that sounds

Just south of town, the Ak-Chin Indian Community has an entertainment center with a full movie theater, bowling, laser tag, and an arcade, plus a casino and dining — an easy date-night or family evening. For the big-box stores, Ahwatukee and northwest Chandler have everything (Costco, Sam's, Target) and a great shopping district, and the Phoenix Premium Outlets off I-10 are worth the trip for the deals.

Groceries & everyday needs

In town you've got Fry's, Bashas', a Walmart Supercenter, and Sprouts — the everyday basics are covered.

What's coming (it's moving fast)

Maricopa is one of the fastest-growing cities in the country, and retail is catching up. Home Depot opened in late 2024, Lowe's is close to finishing with additional retail space alongside it — including an Aldi. More is on the way as the rooftops keep going up. And the community shows up big for local events (the 4th of July fireworks, cultural night, and more). New to the area? Start with the relocation guide or the cost-of-living breakdown.
