Not everyone wants to start with a starter home. Maybe you earn well, or you've got equity to roll over. So I toured the higher end of Maricopa's new builds — three communities, from RV garages to a five-car drive-through. Not full luxury, but some genuinely great options.
First stop was a Castle Rock community built around something you rarely see in Maricopa new construction: RV garages. I couldn't get inside the day I filmed (the reps had a family emergency), but it's worth knowing this exists — I've had clients specifically asking for RV garages lately, and they're tough to find in new builds. If that's on your must-have list, it's a real option here.
Next was Pulte (their sister brand is Centex — same company). I'm partial to them for a specific reason: a client of mine bought a Centex home with one of the same reps in that office, and it produced the cleanest inspection I've ever seen — the only issue was a single missing screw. That's not a guarantee for every home, but it's a great signal (and you should always inspect, even a new build). The model was a 4 bed / 3.5 bath, ~2,821 sq ft home; packages start in the mid-$400s, and the higher package I walked was closer to $533,000. The primary is downstairs, and upstairs opens to a loft nearly the size of the living room (it fit a foosball table). Brand-new section — about 70 lots, with the first homes finishing within a month or two of filming.
The last builder was K. Hovnanian — their upper-end community (separate from their mid-tier Rancho Mirage neighborhood I covered here). At the time, this community had some of the priciest new builds in Maricopa. I showed two very different models, both around $640,000:
The larger model — 4 bed / 3.5 bath with a 3-car tandem garage, 10-ft ceilings, and a standout kitchen with cabinets running to the back wall and upper cabinets (something I hadn't seen in a Maricopa new build), double ovens, and a gas range. It comes move-in ready with fixtures and cabinetry included (potentially yours in ~30 days), plus a three-panel sliding glass door that fully opens to a covered patio.
The Jerome — same ~$640K but about 2,765 sq ft, 4 bed / 3 bath, with the headline feature: a five-car, drive-through garage (doors front and back, openers on every bay) that's pre-wired with a 240-volt outlet for EV charging. Garage space isn't counted in livable square footage, so it's not a fair size-for-size comparison — but that drive-through is a genuine perk, especially for moving big furniture straight through to the backyard.
Maricopa has a real range — from the most affordable new builds to these premium options, with a ton of great middle-of-the-road choices in between. If you're buying up here, the build quality and upgrades are worth touring in person. And the rule that never changes: bring your agent before you walk into a builder — I've watched buyers get curious, wander into a model, and end up stuck without representation. Start with my new-construction guide if you're new to this.
Yes. They're not full luxury, but there's a real high end. When I filmed, that included an RV-garage community (Castle Rock), Pulte/Centex homes in the ~$533,000 range, and K. Hovnanian's upper-end community with homes around $640,000 - among the priciest new builds in town at the time. Prices move; ask me for current.
It's rare for new construction, but yes - a few communities offer it, like the Castle Rock community I featured. I've had clients specifically asking for RV garages lately, so if that's a must-have, tell me and I'll track down what's currently available.
Always - even on a new build, a good inspector usually catches a list of items. That said, the cleanest inspection I've ever seen was a client's Centex home (same company as Pulte): the only issue was a single missing screw. It's a good sign for build quality, though never a guarantee for any specific home.
On this tour, K. Hovnanian's Jerome model had a five-car, drive-through garage (doors front and back) with openers on every bay - and it came pre-wired with a 240-volt outlet for EV charging. The drive-through is genuinely handy for moving big furniture straight through to the backyard.
Think 10-foot ceilings (vs. the standard 9), upper kitchen cabinets running to the ceiling, double ovens, gas ranges, smart appliances, garden tubs plus walk-in showers, and three-panel sliding glass doors that fully open to the patio. Several of these homes also come move-in ready with fixtures and cabinetry included.
